Rules for Advertisting Licence Application

1. When racing in events in Hong Kong, a yacht wishing to display advertising on her hull, sails or spars shall be in possession of a valid Advertising License, issued by her National Authority as provided in ISAF Regulation 20 – (Advertising Code).

 2. Yacht owners/skippers wishing to apply for a HKSF Advertising Licence must submit the application more than 4 weeks before the first race in which they intend to display the advertising. Applications submitted under 4 weeks before the first race where they intend to display the advertising but before 2 weeks will be subject to an additional fee of 50% of the calculated fee. Applications within 2 weeks of the first race displaying the advertising will not be considered.

3. The fee for a licence will be 5% of the value of any new sponsorship derived from the
display of the advertising, with a minimum charge of $250. In the event of the
sponsorship being undervalued, HKSF may revoke the licence and/or take such other
action as it sees fit.

4. If the applicant does not receive any sponsorship in cash or in kind in exchange for displaying the advertisement, but gains other financial or commercial benefit from its display, the fee for the licence will be based on the size of the advertisement(s). The applicant is required to state in his application the area of the envelope(s) which would enclose the advertisement(s) on each sail. The fee will be calculated as HK$250 times the square metre area on each sail, subject to a minimum charge of HK$250.

5. If an applicant wishes to apply additional advertising to a sail already approved under the scheme, an additional charge based on the area of the advertisement will be made in accordance with Rules 3 or 4 above. Additional sponsorship received is subject to a further application under Rule 2.

6. If the applicant receives no sponsorship or other benefit from the display of the
advertisement, the charge for the licence will be $100.

7. If approved the licence will cover all races for a period of 1 year from the date of
approval and an application for renewal must be made within 4 weeks of expiry. The renewal fee will be 15% of the original licence fee.

8. Each approval will be for advertising on specific items of equipment. If additional equipment carrying advertising is to be used, an additional licence must be obtained.

9. The licence will apply to the boat and, if the boat is sold, will continue to be valid for that boat and the licenced equipment until expiry of the licence when a new application must be made..

10. If the equipment is transferred to another boat, a new licence is required.

11. Monies derived from the HKSF licensing scheme will be ploughed back into the Hong Kong sailing scene as financial assistance for sail training schemes, racing seminars, youth participation in overseas events or other similar deserving causes.
