Rules for Advertising License Application (Revised w.e.f. 1st January 2011)

1. When racing in events in Hong Kong, a yacht wishing to display advertising on her hull, sails or spars shall be in possession of a   valid Advertising License, issued by her National Authority as provided in ISAF Regulation 20 – (Advertising Code).

2. Yacht owners/skippers wishing to apply for a HKSF Advertising License must submit the application more than 4 weeks before the first race in which they intend to display the advertising. HKSF are unable to guarantee that applications submitted less than 4 weeks before the first race where they intend to display the advertising can be approved before the required date.

3. The fee for a license will be calculated as HK$250 times the square metre area on each sail or hull, subject to a minimum charge of HK$250. For advertising that appears on both sides of a sail or hull, the area will be assessed for just one side.

4.The applicant is required to state in his application the area of the envelope(s) that would enclose the advertisement(s) on each sail or hull.

5. If an applicant wishes to apply additional advertising to a boat already approved under the scheme, an additional charge based on the area of the advertisement will be made in accordance with Rules 3 & 4 above. Additional sponsorship received is subject to a further application under Rule 2. If approved, this extra sponsorship will be incorporated into the existing licence.

6. If approved the license will cover all races for a period of 1 year from the date of approval and may not be refunded either partially or in full. An application for renewal must be made within 4 weeks of expiry. The renewal fee will be $150. A late payment charge of 10% may be incurred for renewals made outside of the 4 week grace period.

7. The license will apply to the boat and, if the boat is sold, will continue to be valid for that boat and the licensed equipment until expiry of the license when a new application must be made.

8. A license may be transferred,

(1) if the original licensed equipment is replaced by new equipment on the same boat; and

(2) if the advertisement on the replaced equipment is up-dated, the same or similar to the original.

If (2) is not met, a transfer fee of $150 will be charged.

9. If the equipment is transferred to another boat, a new license is required for that boat.

10. Monies derived from the HKSF licensing scheme will be ploughed back into the Hong Kong sailing scene as financial assistance for sail training schemes, racing seminars, youth participation in overseas events or other similar deserving causes.

11. These rules supersede all previous rules with effect from January 1st 2011. All existing licenses will remain in force until their expiry date at which time they may be renewed subject to the $150 renewal fee.
