General Guidelines for Students

1. Students must be at least 18 years of age.

2. Attendance at 80% of the classes is required. Those failing to attend 80% of the classes will not be eligible for taking the examination.

3. Student who are late by one hour or more for the class, his/her attendance for that day will not be counted.

4. Homework assignments must be completed and are assessed. All assignments must be submitted to the lecturers at least one       week before the examination for marking. Those who fail will not be eligible to take the examination.

5. Student is required to complete both Part A and Part B of the examination papers.  The overall passing scores are 70%.

6. If any student who fails the examination but his/her scores are over 50%, he/she will be offered a resit of examination two weeks afterwards.  However, if his/her scores are below 50%, he/she will have to do the course again if he/she so wishes.

7. As required by the Marine Department, candidates are required to undertake an eyesight test for vision and colour before the license will be issued. Candidates may either take an eyesight test with registered medical practitioner prior to or after the course or take a Marine Department test.  However,  people with severe eyesight impairment are advised to take an eyesight test before taking the couse to make sure they are able to fulfil the standard required by the Marine Department for the license.  The standard to be reached is as follows:-

8. Candidates failing the colour test will, if successful in the examination, be issued with a Certificate of Competency valid for day-time use – during the hours between sunrise and sunset. The eyesight test result cannot be amended.
